Permanent Memorial: Selected Design

The Veterans' Glass City Skyway (formerly known as the Maumee River Crossing) is currently the largest single project ever undertaken by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT)! Citizens in northwest Ohio have been continuously working with ODOT since April of 1999, when the design of this landmark project began.

Veterans’ Glass City Skyway is Open to Traffic
After decades of planning, years of construction and tireless effort on the part of workers and volunteers, the Veterans' Glass City Skyway is open to traffic! The Skyway officially opened on June 24, 2007 after an inspiring and heartwarming grand opening celebration the day before.

We'd like to extend a great deal of thanks and credit to the public for their years of patience, commitment and dedication to this project. In addition to over 40 public meetings, the community was involved in nearly every aspect of the bridge – from the initial design incorporating a glass-paneled, illuminated pylon to its name, Veterans' Glass City Skyway. This is truly Toledo's bridge and we couldn’t have done it without you.
